What is herbalism?
Modern Herbal medicine combines elements of traditional herbal practice with the knowledge gained from scientific research. Practitioners here in the UK are trained in orthodox medical diagnosis and using plant based medicines to treat their patients. The practitioner treats the person as a unique individual, thus the preparations and treatments are always specific.
The preparations can be in tinctures, powders or as a tea. Externally there are creams and lotions. Medical Herbalists are trained to work alongside and with Orthodox medications and Doctors.
Who can be treated?
Many conditions or symptoms can be treated with herbs regardless the patient’s age. Nearly all problems can be supported with herbs or if there is no cure the quality of life can usually be improved. I have experience treating fertility issues, musculoskeletal problems, digestive disorders, thyroid problems, asthma and children with skin problems, cough and colds and many viral infections.
I have also designed individual detox and training programs (combining herbs with diet and exercise ) to great success.
About the treatment
I typically do a short first consultation with all my treatments, but with herbal treatments there is an extensive 1.5 hrs consultation. That includes a detailed medical history, diet, lifestyle, emotional state and any other cause that might be relevant. The physical examination always includes a routine blood pressure and pulse check, plus visible signs of deficiencies of pathologies. Depending on the problem I might carry out further examinations or refer you to relevant practitioners or laboratories for further blood, or more complex tests.
Once the cause is determined we work out a plan that suits you. The plan may include changes to lifestyle and diet as well as taking herbs.
Follow up consultations last for about 45 minutes, every 2-6 weeks depending on the nature of the condition.
